Hey all, So I was looking at the Barbarian and reviewing the various skills that were altered/new and was wondering why they even called this hero a barbarian. The changes to the game alone could merit a different hero identity, and there are a myriad barbarian synonyms they could have used in its place. While we know that Blizzard wants to perfect this meat-cannon, but they received a lot of criticism for bringing back a character from Diablo 2. Wouldn't the hero class "Brawler," or "Scrapper," or "Titan," or any other similar name suffice? What are your guys' thoughts on the Barbarian, and whether or not you still feel the name is true to the changes that have been made? |

well no matter what blizzard calls it i think people will always call it the "Barb" or "Barbarian" because in the first gameplay video they call it the barbarian and have ever since. also they said they had originally planned to make him the "Viking" or something but he just felt to barbarian like so they just put him in his place. i think he's awesome but i probably wont be spending to much time with him when D3 hits.... for i've never been one to play around with melee classes in RPGs but hey this may turn my liking towards the category. one problem i do have with him is that he has a lot of *spells* and well i've never thought of melee classes having a lot of *spells* but thats just me. |

I'm pretty picky on class names myself and while I don't particularly like the name 'Barbarian', I think the reason why this name stuck is because it has more of an iconic value than anything. Also, the character is from the Barbarian homelands and identifies as a Barbarian, so yeah... Barbarian. Blizzard also said something about keeping the class names generic enough, like they had considered calling the Monk a Dervish but went for Monk instead. This is like the Viking/Barbarian parabole. As far as generic class names go, I think Barbarian fits the role pretty well. I can't find any generic name replacements for this class. |
